Beckoning
Two blog posts in one year?!
I've been dreaming about houses, about moving into spaces, making them my own, bringing my belongings with me, keeping track of them, finding people and spaces coinciding in interesting ways. I'm fascinated by how my subconscious integrates.
I'm in Perú again. I've been in communication with two people who I have significant history with (read:trauma) in different ways. I find it incredible to come back - return - begin again - feel - observe - hold - affirm
This will be one of many posts, some more coherent than others, I suppose.

Arequipa lies at 7,661 feet above sea level, truly in the foothills of the Andes. August 15 was her birthday, which everyone's really excited about. Marc Anthony was performing this week and so on.

Yesterday I took a little drive with Tonio to Characato (the most historic part of Arequipa, apparently) through these rural areas pictured below. I noticed the Río Socabaya, which is basically dry, and various green "quebradas" (streambeds) full of trash. It's disheartening and also familiar to notice themes related to missing water stewardship here, after working in Bogotá.
Wednesday and Thursday I got to see my friend Gustavo in Camaná (elevation 49 ft above sea level, founded in 1539)
I continuously bring up the "biocultural" paradigm I learned about in Melissa Nelson's introductory graduate course in our Sustainability program. It takes "socioecological" a step further (not undermining it, rather pointing to how biological and cultural diversity is essential).
